The following is an outline of The Center’s programs for Individuals and Families.

Creating Healthy Attitudes in Teens (CHAT)

This is a two-session program for teens whose use of drugs or alcohol is beginning to create problems for them in their lives. This includes teens that have begun to get into trouble with their families, at school, in the community and with the law. Read more…

A one-session skill-based program that helps children and parents deal with the children’s reaction to divorce. Read more…

Coping with Work and Family Stress

This is an interactive program designed to teach adults 18 years and older how to deal with stressors at work and at home through behavioral, social and cognitive strategies. Participants develop their own individualized plan aimed to reduce stress and increase satisfaction and overall well-being. Read more…

Parental Guidance for Teens (PG for Teens)

Parental Guidance for Teens is a 90 minute workshop that provides parents with up-to-date information about: current trends and drug use in Bergen County; why kids use; and what parents can do about it. Positive Parenting

This 3-session program helps parents better understand the dynamics of the teenage experience and learn strategies to help increase their children’s ability to make smart, healthy and safe decisions. Read more…

EPIC (Every Person Influences Children)

EPIC is a 12-week parenting skills course held in Paramus and Hackensack, evenings and daytime, dedicated to providing parents with the education and support they need to raise responsible and caring children. Read more...

Strengthening Families

Strengthening Families is a comprehensive, 14-session, family skills training designed to develop and strengthen parents’ confidence in their ability to supervise, support and communicate with their children. Each 21/2 hour session includes family meal time, separate group meetings for parents and children, and large group interaction among all family members participating in the program. Read more…

Take Control of Your Health

This is a 6-session, interactive program to help people with chronic conditions, and their caregivers, overcome daily challenges and maintain active, fulfilling lives by taking a more active role in managing their health and their health care. Often, we do not recognize health issues and diseases that are chronic conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure, migraines, chronic back pain, and arthritis among other consistent long term issues that affect daily life. Participants learn about healthier ways to live, gain confidence and motivation to manage their health and feel more positive about their lives. Read more…

The Adolescent Brain

This 11/2 hour program is for parents of adolescents who want to learn about the way teenagers think and how to communicate with them better. The program addresses the paradox of the teenage experience, explaining how teens can be so clever, accomplished, and responsible while at the same time being reckless and impulsive, based on their developing brain. Findings of studies and neuro-imaging research of the human brain are discussed to help participants better understand the role of development on teen behavior.

Wellness Initiative for Senior Education (WISE)

This 6-session program celebrates healthy aging by educating older adults about the positive aspects of growing older, maintaining a positive attitude and developing a comprehensive plan for working with all your health care professionals. Participants gain an understanding of common aging issues so they can avoid problems associated with the interaction of over-the-counter, prescription medication, herbal remedies and alcohol while supporting their ability to make positive lifestyle choices as they age.
