
Youth Empowerment Network (YEN) teaches developmentally appropriate life skills to students in grades 5 and 6 to increase resiliency and decrease the likelihood of using alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Students participating in YEN meet for 45 minutes each week for a total of 10 consecutive weeks. Each session includes role playing, games and other cooperative group activities to help them internalize their learning.
Students learn and practice the following:
• Refusal skills
• Decision making
• Goal setting
• Stress management
• Communication skills
