About Us

The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources, a Program of Children’s Aid and Family Services, provides substance abuse prevention, education, information, and referral services to county residents, businesses, schools, faith-based organizations, municipal alliances and social service agencies.  The Center is supported by grants, contracts and generous contributions from public and private donors.  As a result, many of our services are offered to the public at no cost.  The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources is The Prevention Resource Center for Bergen County and towns East of the Passaic River in Passaic County.

At The Center, we think that drug and alcohol use should be talked about in a non-judgmental and educationally sound way so that all who seek guidance can be empowered to make informed decisions. We are located in Fair Lawn in a contemporary and inviting setting with a knowledgeable staff.  Our office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Our services are professional, confidential and affordable.  We’re here to help you.

Our Mission

The mission of The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources is to educate the community about alcohol and drug misuse and advocate for responsive prevention, recovery support, and treatment services.

Children’s Aid and Family Services strengthens families and empowers individuals – children and adults alike – to reach their fullest potential. Motivated by compassion and in partnership with the community, we make positive lasting differences in the lives of those we serve. We provide high-quality, innovative services to children, adults, and their families that advance social, educational and emotional development and well-being.

Our History

The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources (TCADR) was founded and incorporated in 1979 as the Bergen County Council on Alcoholism and began its programming under the leadership of its first executive director, H. William Tackmann.  With a $10,000 grant from the Junior League of Bergen County to implement a K-12 education curriculum and a $25,000 grant from the NJ State Division on Alcoholism to raise community awareness about drunken driving and fetal alcohol syndrome, the agency’s work got off the ground.

The agency changed its name in 1986 to reflect the nationwide trend of joining drug treatment and alcohol treatment under one umbrella of addiction services.  The newly named entity, the Bergen County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, Inc., continued to implement educational programs in the community and developed new ones to reflect the ever changing needs of the community.

In 2006, the name was changed to The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources to reflect the range of services provided and the place where the community can access information and support related to the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Only 3 years later, TCADR merged in with Children’s Aid and Family Services in 2009 to expand its reach in the community and better serve our county’s most vulnerable residents.
